Planes stops

Postby jfg123 » Fri Sep 26, 2003 6:58 am

Dear Sim pilots,

When I fly some addons planes and sim plane, after several view and adjusting thing, my computer freezes up and make a continuous one sound noise, and the only way I can get rid of it is to turn it off and restart it agian. This is a bit disquiting because I like to finish my flight or manuvers. Any Ideas? I ran a virus check and no files were affected.  This even happens if I try to overload, or change planes and so on.

I run my Sims, on a 1.3gig, Antholon Chip with 512 Ram and 40Gb hardirve, with 64mb built in video card and sound card.
Thanks if you can help. Jg VFR, IFR sim pilot.

Ozzy

I fly Microsoft 2002 Pro with this problem, but am going to change over to Microsoft 2004 soon hope it doesn't happen with the new Sim.

I have 512 RAM, and run OS XP HOME Edition.
With 64 mb, shared video card.

The way I fix this problem is to shut down and restrat it, cound it be that my virtual memory is not clearing out.
The more I look around as I fly, and adjust the OBS and NAV aids the more it seems to act up at times.

Thanks for Your help JG VFR and IFR sim Pilot

Yes OZ I have downlaoded severice pack #1 and get all current upgrades regurally.

I flew the other day and no lock up our frozen frames.

Do you think my onboard video Ram of 64 shared memory is not sharing? I looked into another video card AGP but my computer maker says they have not been successful far separting onboard vedio.

I still fly when this problem come up I just shut down and start again, move the plane to the same place it was before and continue my flight to a landing. This doesn't happen all the time. I have down laoad the new Direct X 9
Any help here?

It would be my guess that it has to do with the shared video memory conflicting with some other process, I have a hard time believing you can't add a stand alone video card to your machine, at least a PCI card if you don't have an AGP slot.
I've never heard of a PC that you can't add a video card to.
Still no linked images allowed around here Paz! Naughty...

Every now and then this happens to me too, always in full screen mode.
What I do is: hit the "alt" key (which is the only one working usually), click "view"and deselect full screen. The sim immediatly works again. Then switch back to full screen.

I don't know of a solution but hey, at least I can fly on without restarting.

Cheers

Right, well I got rid of the SP1 pack, as it caused loads of trouble on my machine. Try running the machine with only bog-standard XP and no M$ add-ons. This might well cure things ;)

Thank YOU OZZY and AJ.

I too OZZY was amazed when the young tech at Cybertron who build my simple machine, said he did not reccomended adding a stand alone Viedo Card. I did this with an old Sony 333 system and the OS only had to disable the build in card.

For flight sim 2004 what would be a cheap video Card AGP that I could use, as I see some on your sim sites have problems?

Thanks AJ I will try to remember to use your Alt, change view trick,

Thanks for your help, JFG Sim Pilot UFR and IFR

With your spec m8 i wouldnt bother putting COF on it m8 it will just be unuasable , even high spec machines presently struggle with frame rates , on a 1.3 gig machine i would stick with 2002

Still occasionaly having problems with some of my planes freezing up in midair; sound also.

I tried the button fix but no go. I can't seem to find out what is causing this problem, maybe I have to get a differnt viedo card besides the built in one, which may requre some tech help to disable.

I did the other day, finish a flight with addon planes by flying in the day time and not messing with the GPS or OBS and limiting my manurevers. What gives here?
