volcano eruption flight help

Postby Fco_Flyer » Sun Mar 24, 2002 3:32 am

I'm new to sim flying and am trying to see the volcano eruption mentioned in the MS FS2002 pro docs .. I've flown using their flight as it apears on the take a flight
pane and I head oout w/a hdg of 294 .. haven't yet seen anything resembling an eruption...does it take place at a specific time of day?  the date that comes up with the flight is Aug 8, 1983 ...but looking at some web sites on the volcano .. they don't show an eruption happening on that date... 6/29, 7/22, 8/15, an 9/6 are
eruption dates... so any suggestions?

Thanks! ???

goto flightsim.com, and check the fs2k2 newest file section.  I saw a Mt Etna eruption there you might want to try out.

Just keep flying forward and going left a bit, you won't see it straight away, but It will erupt

I don't know it if its part of the effect or anything but i NEVER got an eruption....

It is the cessna, i was flying and there is like fog, but its just poor visibility. Anyways, it gets cloudier or darker or something and i kept circling the volcanao for about 15 minutes, then sped up the simulation to about 5 times and still got nothing. Boo!

I couldn't find it either until I just started flying around the islands. I put in a night flight that took me across the bottom of the island using a small field at the western end of the island as a waypoint and flying east to land at the airport. It worked fine.!
Come to think of it I only had 400meg then so I might go back for a look in 1.8g. :)

If you head from PTHO to HI25 you'll find it.

If your speaking of the Kilauea eruption, yes it does work.  Grab a nice slow Cessna, take off from Hilo, fly along the coast line and you'll hit Volcanoes National Park.  You'll run into Vog (volcano fog) and you'll see the lava trailing down the side of the volcano.  From there you can continue to fly along the coastline heading over the black sand beach, and the green sand beach (one of only two in the world).  You'll hit South Point, who's winds are not accurately represented here, and fly up past Pu'uhonua o Honaunau and Captain Cook before making a soft landing on Kailua-Kona's runway 17...

From the FS2K2 Flights menu, click on FS2000 flights. It might be under Adventures, now that I think about it.

It's been a long time since I've flown that one, but I know It's in there under FS2000 flights.

The flight starts you off at the airport, in 1984, I think.
