Hello can anyone see me?

Postby born_2_fly » Sun Jun 08, 2003 1:12 pm

Hi I have only just bought and installed fs2002pro and this is only my second post so a few things may seem stupid and easy to solve to you!

Ok so here I am at heathrow in my virgin 747 VFR to los angeles. I get taxi clearence and im at the end of the taxiway and have just recived take off clearence............ when another 747 takes off straight through me and i am left with that annoying sign "CRASH! Aircraft collision"
Also while im here what height should I be at when i enter the green approach cone in a 747? Thanks in advance

Based on your description, I'm wondering if you are taxiing to the correct end of the runway.   If this aircraft you are colliding with is coming from the other end of the runway - that would be a strong indicator that you have not.  AI traffic is programmed to use the active runway unless you tell it to do differently.

Secondly,  for a long haul flight such as EGLL to KLAX, I would strongly recommend filing an IFR flight plan.  On your approach to KLAX, ATC will give you approach vectors, including descending instructions.  You will also be able to cruise at an appropriate altitude with the full ATC service.

Good luck :)

Thanks everyone i'll try to use IFR in future! Paz I have heard many good things about your 'Misadventures of a simpilot' but I am yet to find it plaese could you tell the website or put a thread here? thanks again P.S i use Progressive taxi so unless there is something wrong with the program i got to the right end of the runway!is there any way to get ATC to change the active runway or is there only one active?  ;D ;D

Commercial, (especially heavies), never, ever fly VFR.
Always IFR filed flight plans.

You can change the active runway at an airport by using AFCAD to alter AI traffic movement at the airport.

I'm guess I'm still not clear on how these aircraft collisions are occurring.  Are we talking about head-on collisions on the runway or is an aircraft running you over from behind (?)

Cheers :)

Well the both times its happend to me they have been an aircraft running over me but no head on's yet! Paz congratulations on you Misadventures of a simpilot most interesting read ive had in a long time! I thought heavies did a mixture between VFR & IFR, as in ATC told them when to slow down & by how much but navigated on their own guess I was wrong! Thanks again!

Hmmmmmm.

That's pretty odd!  Sounds like AI is somehow failing to recognize your location during taxi/takeoff.  Other aircraft shouldn't be cleared for takeoff if you are on the runway..........

If you need to, you can change the settings to "Ignore Crash."  I'd hate for you to have to start the simulation all over again each time this happens!
