I Had to Share This

Postby RollerBall » Tue Jun 03, 2003 1:57 pm

Everyone knows that I've got a thing about Kai Tak and yes I have to admit that I think it was a fascinating place. Every now and again something happens that lets you communicate the feelings you have to other people and I just had one of those amazing moments.

I parked the Baron outside the Hong Kong Aviation Club at dusk and then watched as the engines started and the nav and landing lights came on.

The still picture can't do the scene justice but the experience totally summed up the the magic of this place and shows why I'm just so totally captivated.

Scenery design just has to be one of the most satisfying things about this amazing hobby. I KNOW some people must be getting bored with this by now and I'm sorry for that but I just had to share this on the forum.

Bored? ..... I'd challenge you to find one person who is bored with your Kai Tak development  :D

One thing I was mentioning today is the task involved in scenery development!! 'Rome wasn't built in a day' & all that!!

Fantastic shot yet again!! My question is ... when are you going to draw the line on this?

It's most probable that it will work fine in FS2004 too - you'll no doubt be glad to hear ....

Maybe it's possible to release - then release additions?   8)

I used to be addicted to Kai Tak. I had it as my default. I also once had the opportunity of flying a real $10 million 757 simulator & Kai Tak was the airport I was using mainly ... there was a difference between FS & the expensive simulator - but not that big & the cost came from the actual cockpit & machine. The graphics were actually very similar ...  8)

Astounding...........! I can't imagine how much time you have spent on this project & take off my hat to you.  ;)

As Pete says, where do you draw the line? How does a great artist know when its time to put the brushes & palette knives down? I'm sure many people would love to try it out for themselves, even if it's posted in installments.

Absolutely stunning Roger and I get a feel for what you mean from the picture.

I'm going to change my tune now (for purely selfish reasons) and go along with comments from the others above. I'd like to see it released now. If you've more you'd like to do with it then by all means release updates later.

My question is ... when are you going to draw the line on this?

You guys are very generous with your compliments and it's much appreciated. My skills as a scenery designer still have a long way to go but I hope that you'll enjoy the results when I do hand em over!

I promise I'll do that soon - probably within the next 2 weeks. I keep taking bits out to show but it's till very much work in progress. When I started I made a list of the key features that I had to include and I'm still not quite there yet. I've decided that I will release it in phases but I think the first one has to capture the fundamental essence and character of the place.

Over the past months - I started at the end of last year, it just seems so long ago - I've developed such an affection for the place I feel I just have a duty to do it justice. I know it may sound crazy - it's just a FS2002 scenery after all - but it's grown into more than that for me. My wife thinks I'm totally mad - but I think you'll probably understand that better than her!

Thanks again for your unending support - it makes the job so much more worthwhile.

Yawn.........ya right! I am looking forward to having this on my sim. You attention to detail is great.  From what I can see your scenery rivails any payware one could get.
Release it as donationware and give the money to your wife.  Wife+$$= happy people ;D
