Flight Level

Hi, It has been long time since I have been in the forums and also long time since I have used flight simulator. So now I have time to get back into my cockpit. I have a question that will seem stupid to most: I recently installed one of the adventures. Pretty good adventure and helps with the rusty spots. Atc tells me to change my flight level to 150. How do I do this? What is flight level? I thought  that it was the altiitude selector. I told you that I have been away for a long time. Thank you,  Jakob

Flight level is a desired altitude that you should maintain. Flight level "150" is 15,000ft(i think). So basically it means change your altitude to 15,000 or whatever your flight level should be. You can change it manually or set auto pilot to do it for you.

"Flight Level" means a 29.92 pressure altitude measured in hundres of feet.  The lowest level is FL180, so there is no "FL150"--that would just be "One Five Thousand", at the current altimiter setting.

When you hear "FL", (1) make sure altimiter is set at 29.92, and (2) multipy the number by 100 to get your altitude.  180 * 100 = 18,000.  350 * 100 = 35,000.  Simple.

A quick note to WZ...in Europe, some countries begin the Flight Levels as low as 3,000 feet! In the USA & Canada, of course, you're right about FL 180.  But in Europe, there have been some ATC "deals" because some US pilots either didn't know, or forgot!
