HELP!!!  My FS is possesed

Postby Funkycowboy63 » Fri Apr 04, 2003 5:52 pm

For about the last three days  whenever I try to start FS I keep getting crashed by a sound file error.  The error messege says:

Soundlib-Fehler
sound.lib-ungueltig

Now, for one thing, that error message is german.  I have never installed any add-on to FS either published in Germany or in the German language.  The last time I used FS was March 16th and all I did was fly from my home in PA. to Bristol, TN for the NASCAR race with my Commander 115.  I installed or downloaded nothing.  My  Norton could detect no worm or virus and defrag and scandisk full did nothing to correct this error either and a manual search through my FS directory has found nothing unusual.  Does anyone have any idea what could caude this or has anyone else ever had a similar experience??  Someone please help if possible, thank you in advance.

Who knows, it could be a billion things. Do you have problems with sound in any other program or game? If this is  strickly an FS issue, I'd reinstall FS without uninstalling it first. If one of the sound files was corrupt for anyreason, the reinstall should overwrite it with a new one.

If you're going to do this I would copy your "...program files\FS2002" folder somewhere else just in case the reinstall blowes away your downloaded planes and stuff like that.

This error message is not uncommon. It's caused by a 3rd party gauge, most likely included with a panel originally intended for FS2000 or even FS98. I forget exactly which gauge it's associated with but the panel seems to work well enough if you ignore the message.  ;)

I experienced the same thing when I installed a 3rd party Concorde panel which had an extra brake sound effect - the error message if the .wav file was not detected, was in German! I couldn't understand it either, but it does not seem to affect the way that FS2k2 runs.
