Need a mechanic? Starting the Caravan.

Postby MattNW » Sun Mar 30, 2003 3:35 pm

For some reason I can't seem to get the Cessna Caravan to start. I follow the instructions in the checklist but when I click on the Starter switch it reads on and after a second it says off and nothing happens. Is there something I'm missing?

What does a good virtual aircraft mechanic charge nowdays?  :D

When starting those little prop planes, I always had to click the mouse over the starter button, and keep pressing it, until I was sure that the engines would run.

Ctrl+E isn't as much fun as doing it all yourself, though!

GASP , Ctrl+E!!  :o That takes all the fun out of it.

That's what I'm using now but it'd be fun to do it the realistic way. I love going through the checklist and flipping all the switches and adjusting stuff. I don't have any problems with the 172, 182s or any of the twins. Even the Learjet fires right up but I can't get the starter switch to stay in position on the Caravan until the engine fires.

It's the stock FS2002 Pro model. I shut it down according to the checklist under, "SHUTDOWN AND SECURING AIRPLANE"

I tried what you said and the only difference was the Fuel Condition Lever setting. The checklist says to set it to Cut Off in the pre-start and to Low after starting. I tried it in Low before starting and it fired up. I still have problems getting the switch to stay up when I hold it but if I reposition my panel up a little it isn't too bad.

Apparently the checklist was wrong. Don't know why I didn't see that earlier. Can't start anything with the fuel cut off. I changed the checklist order so everything works now. My instructor drilled it into me to follow the checklist minutely so when there was an inaccuracy I forgot that it isn't really the "Word of God" like he said.  :-[

If anyone wants to make the change so the checklist is accurate (or at least works in the sim) just edit it so it reads like this:

[ ] Fuel Condition Lever -- LOW IDLE
(press CTRL+SHIFT+F2 or CTRL+SHIFT+F3 as necessary)
[ ] Starter Switch -- START

Thanks again for the help.
