2002 XP ? .. negative

So I put the disk in and it says it's installing but it does not, same disk on Me no problem.  ???

Is autoplay disabled? You could open the cd and navigate to set-up icon and try that way.

Okay-stupid answer- you said it says it's coping but doesn't set up and directories on the 'puter?

Send email to FS2K2 help line, I've never had that problem but I'm sure Microsoft probably has run accross it.

I'm using XP Pro and it installed no problem, sometimes the computer likes it if you turn off the built in firewall when adding software. No-one knows why!

Ive heard fs2002 not running properly / unreliebly on XP after upgrading from ME, 98..but even before installation, first time iam hearing this.

Maybe the problem lies in your computer:
Too slow processor for XP, insufficient RAM to run the application,  over fragmented hard drive, virus infection; well iam not certain of any.
Try increasing virtaul memory: System properties > Advanced > Performance - Settings > Advanced > Virtual memory - change.

Does your computer recognize other CDs and DVDs when you put them in the drive?  Has the percentage of times one false-starts when you put it in the drive gone up?

There is a known problem with Windows XP computers that also have Roxio CD Creator and Norton Systemworks installed.  It is discussed in Microsoft Knowledgebase article 314993.  XP service pack #1 is supposed to solve the problem, so if you bought Windows XP recently, you should already be innoculated.

I had the joy of discovering this problem the hard way when I bought a new laptop last November.  I spent almost a week installing programs and configuring the new machine to work the way I liked it.  I kept noticing that sometimes a CD wouldn't be recognized by Windows.  At first I could usually just eject it and put it back in to get it to work, but after awhile the rejection rate approached 90% and I hit the panic button.  Dell technical support was baffled and I found the knowledgebase article myself.  It took a complete format re-install of Windows to cure it, and another full week of duplicating my previous work to get the machine running the way I like.

A general word of advice to everybody considering upgrading to XP:

DON'T use the upgrade option over existing installation of WinME or Win98 when installing WinXP . Do a clean install.

XP makes gallant efforts to retain your settings and install appropriate driver upgrades if you do an upgrade. The chances of it doing it correctly are about 1 in a 1,000. The other 999 instances will mean that you encounter all sorts of problems at some point or other.

I know it's a pain having to re-install all your software when you do a clean install, but believe me, in the long run it will save you a lot of time and grief.

If you've already gone down the upgrade option route and you have problems - bite the bullet, re-format and do a clean XP install. If you have all the necessary XP drivers, you'll find a lot of mystery problems disappear.

Why do you discourage people to use a upgrade option during install ? It is much simpler an efficient to upgrade from an existing OS to XP by upgrade; in any case, any problems arising from it can be fixed up later much quickly that reinstall all the drivers, reentering all the settings, preferernces, etc. and i personallly DID NOT encounter any problems when i first upgraded from 98 and then had to re install XP twice during last year.

In the post dated march25, i meant XP running properly on 98 / ME but not on XP.

Well, this is not the first time i am hearing these type of comments from others. Friends ask me how i manage to run XP so smoothly on my slow machine without problems? I guess its in the understanding of the PC and careful selection in drivers, software, optimum settings, etc.
Any way deadly problems sometimes do occur with re-format the only solution. My advice to all is work carefully and know what your machine is capable of. Problems do not occur just because someone uses a different approach to  do something, but if they do, understanding the situation and what the computer is requiring from you is the most important.
This is just my side of the situation, i hope others could also cope with the situation similarly.
