GeForce TI 4800 setings

Hi Guys

I need some help from you grafics card experts.

Today I'm a luky guy, a friend of mine brought me from taiwan the new MSI GeForce TI 4800 ddr 128mb grafic card for a nice price, the problem is that i don't know how to optimize the setings for CFS2 and FS2002, I hope someone clould help with this.

All sugestions will be very apreciated

Make sure you have DirectX v9 from M$ installed. And make sure you driver set is bang up to date (probably will be, but check nVidias site for any stuff relating to OS performance).

Your AGP speed will make very little impact on the performance fo the card.

AGPx8 speed capable cards have been (professionally) benchmarked on machines running at AGPx1 and AGPx8.

The overall improvement when switching from AGPx1 to AGPx8 was 3%.

If you can run at AGPx4 on your current board, you can expect an overall loss in performance of the new card of around 1% - I doubt you'd notice it at all.

Congrats you have a hell of a card there but unfortunetally, you can not utilize it to it's fullest potential.  The Ti4800 is 8x AGP compliant but your motherboard supports only up to 4x AGP.  Don't get me wrong, you can still use that bad boy & get terrific results but only at 4x AGP.  Do you see where I'm getting at?  You can still you use it but you wont get the benifets out of 8x AGP.

I don't have that card, I have a geforce 4 ti 4200 64mb but I was just wondering what would have happened in case of installing an 8x agp card on a 4x motherboard.

But FS2002tipster said that changing from 1x card to a 8x was only 3% improvement then I'll keep the card that I currently have. I was just thinking that it would double performance or close. Would anyone recomend ditching the ti 4200 and going for something like ATI 9700PRO or maybe ti 4600?

Just to clarify Selby, I wasn't referring to the cards themselves.

I was talking about the difference in performance you'd get from any given card by inserting into an AGPx1 slot as opposed to an AGPx8 slot.

Just to add to the confusion....  I have experienced this.

My Mother board does not support AGP 4X cards.  I bought the GF 4 Ti 4400 128mb card and this is a 4x card.  I am able to use the card in my AGP slot, but I am not getting the performance out of my card that I would if I had the AGP 4X slot.  Wish I new more about it when I went out to buy it.  So my only hope that I know of is to live with it or go out and buy a new mother board that supports AGP 4x.  Granted, I am able to use the card and everything works fine, the only issue is I am getting half the performance out of it because of the 4x AGP issue.

I think that is what the discussion is about.....

I don't mean to dispute what you're saying, but I'd be extremely surprised if using a 4X AGP slot doubled the performance of your card.

AGP speed is by no means directly related to the output of the card.

There are numerous other factors that could affect why you aren't getting the performance out of the card that you expect, both hardware and software related.

I'd be a little cautious about spending money on a new motherboard purely for the sake of increasing the speed of the AGP slot.  As I mentioned earlier in this thread, tests show that the speed of the slot itself has very little bearing on the performance fo the card and it certainly wouldn't be the sole reason why you're seeing "half" the performance.
