Gillette ends endorsement deal with Tiger Woods

Procter & Gamble's Gillette is ending its endorsement deal with golfer Tiger Woods as of Dec. 31.

The men's grooming company will not renew its sponsor relationship with Woods as part of a plan to phase out its Gillette Champions marketing program in the first quarter of 2011, said Gillette spokesman Michael Norton Thursday in an exclusive interview with Game On!

Under the plan, Gillette is cutting ties with Woods, soccer players Thierry Henry, Kaka, Rafa Marquez and Lionel Messi and other athletic endorsers around the world, said Norton. However, its keeping other athletes as endorsers who served as Gillette champions in global or local marketing efforts. They include: Derek Jeter of the New York Yankees, tennis star Roger Federer and NHL star Alexander Ovechkin.

They could have saved a million dollars if they fired him a year ago,

Sounds like a sensible clearout. On this side of the Atlantic we generally get Gillette adverts with Woods, Federer and Henry, and have for about 5 years.

Fed still has the stock of a champion, even if not world no 1. Henry and Woods have fallen a little by the wayside. :)

It was also an excuse to post a picture of Marilyn Chambers.

I think it's also more of a reflection that he's (finally) no longer world #1.

He's let someone else have a go! ;D
