Rice shoots highest ever score at event

SPARTANBURG, S.C. -- Hall of Fame receiver Jerry Rice set another record Thursday, although this wasn't one he'd hoped for at the BMW Charity Pro-Am.

Rice shot a 92, the highest score ever since this Nationwide Tour event began in South Carolina's Upstate in 1992.

Rice talked before the tournament of buying Cristal for everyone if he reached his goal and made the cut. He saw those hopes doused early when he couldn't avoid the water at The Carolina Country Club.

He put three shots into the water on the par-4 second hole for a 10. Things never improved from there. His 20-over finish was two shots worse than the 90 put up by Shawn McCaughley in 2006 at The Cliffs Valley Course.

He was later disqualified for using an illegal rangefinder.

Golf isn't as easy as it looks.

I want to laugh, but the last golf ball i hit went into the ground 5 feet infront of me then rolled to me. Fair play to him for giving it a go :)

I would not have thought it possible to hook a ball that much.

I bet if he kept his head down he wouldnt top the ball so many times.

Cowboys QB Romo one step closer to U.S. Open spot

CARROLLTON, Texas (AP) -- Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo is a step closer to competing in the U.S. Open at Pebble Beach.

Romo was among seven golfers who moved on to the sectional round following a round at The Honors Club of Dallas. Romo shot a 2-under 69, which put him in a four-man playoff for three spots.

Romo advances to a 36-hole qualifier June 7 at The Woodlands. If he's among the top finishers there, he would have a spot in the season's second major tournament June 17-20 at Pebble Beach.

Last week, Romo advanced to the Monday qualifier for the HP Byron Nelson Championship, but had to drop out because it conflicted with a Cowboys workout. The first round of the HP Byron Nelson Championship was Thursday.

There's no Cowboys conflict June 7.

Quarterbacks get all the glory.

Romo should just quit football...he's a great golfer

I think he'll do better in the PGA than the NFL.... ;D

Sounds like a good bag. Also sounds like your a Ping golfer.. ;D 8-)

I just recently bought a new driver, I love it.

Ping G15 10.5 Driver with a Draw added to it
Taylormade 2009 Burner Irons
Adams A3 3 wood
Adams Tom Watson set 52, 56, 60
Taylormade Monte Carlo Rossa Putter

Ive played great with my bag this year but I only hold 1 wood because im not great hitting fairway woods, I love my irons so I stick to them. I mostly have wedges...5 of them

I need the utility woods because I can't for the life of me hit an iron farther than 150 yards - I don't even carry the 4, 5, 6 irons.

But I love that 60

Yeah everyone has there own ways to play. Im not very consistent with my 4 iron or 5 iron but my 6-AW im pretty consistent with getting it on the green.
