The Open (Golf) Championship

Postby Webb » Sun Jul 10, 2016 2:28 pm

The 145th Open Championship starts this Thursday.

US TV times are a little funky since it's played in Scotland. It will mostly be late morning and early afternoon.

Tiger Woods is still recuperating and will not be playing.

What a finish! It came down to match play between Stenson and Mickelson. No one else was even close.

Final

Henrik Stenson -20
Phil Mickelson -17
J.B. Holmes -6

First Swede to win The Open.

Hey Jim, I'm not much of a golf enthusiast but I noticed that after the first round Henrik Stenson wasn't in the top three as you listed them but he sure came from behind in round two and had Mickelson looking over his shoulder. Was Stenson sort of a "dark horse?"

Stenson is the #6 player in the world and shot 68-65-68-63.

His first round -3 just didn't put him high enough on the leaderboard to be noticed on Thursday.

A lot of the scoring had to do with weather conditions on the west coast of Scotland in the "summer". Sunday started out miserable but ended up almost balmy by the afternoon.
