The last Masters

Postby Webb » Sat Apr 09, 2016 3:08 pm

At least two players have announced that this will be their last Masters tournament. There may be more as older players realize they just can't compete 20-somethings who can drive a ball 350 yards.

Tom Watson (66). Watson received a special exemption from the R&A last year so that he could finish his Open career at St. Andrews. Watson has won 8 major championships.

Ian Woosnam OBE (58). Woosnam has won one major championship, The Masters, in 1991.

As past winners both players have lifetime exemptions to the tournament.

The pairing of Bernhard Langer & Jason Day was a perfect example of 'old school' vs. 'nu skool'.

It also showed how a shorter hitter (Langer, -1), adept with both wedge play and putting, was able to both keep pace and beat a longer hitter head to head (Day, E).

Langer commented how, on one hole, he was hitting 3 wood into the green whereas Jason hit a 7 iron!

Going caveman with the big dog has its place, but so does Course Management and, as Harry Callahan would say,

Sometimes The Masters is remembered more for the losers than the winners.

Jordan Spieth will be back.
