I have been an avid fan of TWOTW for quite a while. I must've heard it for the first time between age 3 and 6 on long car journeys, and it was absolutely brilliant (this was in between Metallica and early The Prodigy tapes).

The tape was a rubbish copy and parts of the story were missing out, so it wasn't until 2008 or so when we bought the CD that I could actually hear it from start to finish.

Then, just today, I got my hands on the new version, The New Generation, with the likes of Liam Neeson et al. I have a pretty good memory of how the original sounded, and while there aren't many modifications, I like what Jeff Wayne has done with it. Just a little bit more of a techno feel to it and some enhanced audio effects... And obviously, Liam Neeson. Martians should be more afraid of him than any bacteria

I've not heard the New Generation version yet, but I plan to get it soon.

The 1978 original version was heavily promoted here in Indiana, coinciding with Halloween of that year. Forever Autumn and other tracks got lots of airplay, and the entire album was played on the air at midnight on Halloween. They did things like that on radio back then, before the big corporations ruined the music industry. I've had the original version of TWOTW on a double 8-track set, cassette sets, on CD, and now on MP3 download versions. I couldn't play The Red Weed track when my young daughter was near. It would scare her too badly! Richard Burton's superb narration is unforgetable. I expect Liam Neeson will do the dialogue justice, too. It's wonderful that through the years Jeff Wayne has shown so much dedication to this great retelling of Wells' story.
