Favourite composers?

Postby machineman9 » Fri Apr 13, 2012 9:51 am

Hopefully we can all discover some new talent, and reflect on our own interests...

I'd like to hear who your favourite composer is, and get a song from each of you to back it up.

At the moment, I'm really obsessed with music from Jesper Kyd. He's primarily a soundtrack composer for video games, but has also done some films and adverts. One of my favourite songs must be Venice Rooftops from Assassin's Creed 2.

Greg Edmonson is a close second, for his work on Firefly. David Newman did the movie-sequel soundtrack, and both are superb.

So, let's hear it!

My favourite Composers:

Top of the list = Johann Sebastian Bach!

Closely followed by..

John Dowland...
Henry Purcell,
Tomaso Albinoni,
Johann Pachelbel,
George Frideric Handel.

The sort of music that I can play on my Pianos, Organs, String and Woodwind and Brass, Synthesizer, etc, instruments!

Mind you... 8-)....

The Rolling Stones/Jimi Hendrix aren't bad either!...on my Fender Strat' Guitar... ;)...!

Paul...You hum it...I'll play it... [smiley=thumbsup.gif]...!

I agree with Fozzer, Bach is ace!
I also like Vangelis, Wagner, Beethoven, Strauss the Younger and of course Freddy Mercury!
Of course for movie soundtracks you'll be hard pressed to beat the awesomeness of John Williams ;)

Of course, there's always avant-garde composer John Cage, with his composition 41'33", consisting of just over four and a half minutes of silence.

..and, lest we forget, written specially for me; "Music for the Royal Briggs and Stratton Petrol Lawn Mower", in two movements: Forwards and Backwards...(Signature... ;)...).

Paul... ;D... ;D...!

Bach (I have to be in a detached and anal mood though)
Dylan (60's 70's)
Springsteen (Thunder Road and all 70's 80's)
Vangelis (With Jon Anderson or Blade Runner soundtrack)
Pink Floyd (Dark Side)
Pete Townsend (Whos Next or Quad, really captures the angst of youth imo)
Etc endless list

Not too keen on classical, I need something with Vocals in the main.

2. And, if you have time to write the fault on a napkin and attach to it to the yoke.........you have time to write it in the tech log....see point 1.

Walter changed his name, and a few other things, many years ago.
