Thoughts on the Hunger Games

Postby matthewdev » Mon Apr 16, 2012 8:01 pm

I recently went to see the Hunger Games and found it a mixed experience, has anyone else seen it and liked it/hated it?

Seems that the overall rating on IMDB is moderately high, while almost all the reviews are scathing.

My initial impression once it finished was good, I felt liked it as a gripping story, but it left an awful lot unexplained. It seemed that they expected the viewers to have read the books and be aware of what was going on. I found things like the setting very under-explained. There are a few other story telling gripes I have, but I probably shouldn't rant  :) Overall I enjoyed it despite its flaws and will probably go to see the next one :)

I don't get to the cinema much these days, but enjoyed The Hunger Games despite being completely ignorant of the books! :)

It wasn't as bad as I expected, considering the same missus has totured me with every one of the Twilight series so far.  Never read the book, don't plan to.  Really could care less about a sequel either.

Is this another kids movie like Harry Potter, Narnia, Vampires etc?

You know, this used to be a helluva good country. I don't understand what's gone wrong with it. - George Hanson, 1969

It's more teenageish - In Australia it's rated M  :) Definitely more adultish than Narnia, and shock horror I can't actually tell you about its comparison to Harry Potter  :o From my gleanings it would be aimed at a similar audience to the later Harry Potter movies...
