I admit i usually dont watch these... but they give an interesting view in the ideals of life...

In holland they often awfully slow, with some plots bordering on the absurd... But they usually try to show the average household

Others i have seen bits of
- American soaps... with and wihout arabic subs... Well everyone knows them
- Turkish series that for some reason are always located in some upper class seaside resort town. usually with loads of expensive cars and so on
- Arabic series that are always filmed in Lebanon, and populated with a set of cloned female charactrs (same nose, same hair, same makeup)

When I first met my girl, I politely suffered through VCR recordings of 'All my children' . Thats when I remembered I have a little workshop in the garage! But I have to admit I was getting hooked and needed an intervention.  8-)

Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman

Set in fictional Fernwood, Ohio, this deliriously demented serial focused on the beleaguered heroine Mary Hartman, an average American housewife. In the first year, Mary suffered the travails of mass murder, adultery, venereal disease, homosexuality, religious cults, and UFO sightings, before she finally succumbed to a nervous breakdown on a syndicated talk show.

Dark Shadows

Dark Shadows is a gothic soap opera, which follows the strange happenings to the Collins family and their surrounding friends. The show features everything from Vampires, to Witches, werewolves... you name it.

Not much difference with the arabic variety then...

But without every female character looking like a Haifa Wehbe clone of course.

In holland we have real people in soaps(at least they try to make them act real)...
