Pirates of the Carribean: On Stranger Tides

Saw the new pirates movie over the weekend and while it was enjoyable, it was no where near the par of the first three. It also seems to have been made on a minumum budget as the only returning stars are Jonny Depp as Jack Sparrow, Geofrey Rush as Barbosa, and the guy playing Mr. Gibbs. Gone are Orlando Bloom and Keira Knightly, and the character actors that made up the Black Pearls crew. (The Pearl herself is also missing in action, having been made into the ultimate ship in a bottle by Ian Mcshane's Blackbeard.) The film revolves asround a quest to find the fountain of youth by  Blackbeard, the British Navy, and the Spanish. Along the way our heros encounter a race of carnivorus Mermaids, (Aeriel they aint!), and homages to just about any action pic you could think of like Indiana Jones films, and Highlander, and even Star Trek it seems considering the fountain looks an awful lot like the :Gaurdian of Forever". Keith Richards again dies a cameo as Jack's father, and even though I didn't see her name in the credits, I could swear it was Dame Judi Dench portraying the noblewoman whose carriage Jack briefly takes refuge in while being chased by the Royal gaurd. It would also seem that this may be the last of the pirates films as the last image we have of Depp as Jack Sparrow is him walking along a beach towards the setting sun along with Gibbs just as Orlando Bloom's Will Turner took his bow by sailing off into the sunset aboard the Flying Dutchman at the conclusion of At world's end. Still, as I said it was an enjoyable film, although it could have usded more of the comic moments of the first three. :)

I saw it yesterday. It doesn't feel like a true Pirates, namely because of the lack of Keira and Orlando... If anything it feels like a spin off to follow the storyline of Jack.

I thought it was enjoyable. Not incredible, but it was a nice film to watch. The mermaids were rather alright too  ;D
