Two of our grandchildren play several instruments including the drums and they were anything but cheap according to their parents.
Piano and drum lessons can be expensive by the hour as well.

Not to get too far off topic but I have heard folks say:
That some children who take music in school are very disappointed in their parents who can not afford the cost of a used set of drums or a piano etc. for them to use at home and many talented children drop music altogether.  Shame.

I think that article is a bit misleading. From what I can see the therapy involves community sessions using bongo type drums. They would be portable & far less expensive than a full drum kit.

I played drums regularly for 12 years back in the 60s-70s. It certainly kept me fit but as I mentioned in another topic, I don't consider drumming particularly relaxing. In fact I was usually completely knackered at the end of the evening.

Drumming's not necessarily the best exercise, but it's good for the soul. I guess playing any instrument can be cathartic, etc but drumming's great for hammering out issues.

I'm not a drummer but I always hit my desk while listening to music (you should see how damaged it is )

I haven't played drums in months now, but I do believe that article has some truth to it. Especially after a long session, it's effectively the same feeling as after a mild workout, with your body releasing endorphins that make you 'feel good' naturally. Although after I played gigs back in high school (God, that makes me feel old), I always did feel very tense when our set was over. The energy of the show combined with the ringing ears wasn't a terribly good combination. And to think we were only a bar band. I can't imagine how 'true' rock drummers must feel after a show.
