You may or may not know that I am a fan of the Twilight series (half way through the third. My lovely friend bought me the fourth and it is is under the Christmas tree)
You may also know that the film recently came out - Today (rather, yesterday... 10 past midnight) in the UK, last month in the US I believe.
Owing to it being the end of term yesterday I was able to go watch it today whilst other schools were still at school.
I do like the books, it's just my sort of style and I think they are quite well written. The film, however, seemed like a bit of a letdown. Very much jumbled up... Important parts missed, stupid and fake parts added. It did follow the storyline (by that I mean it started with the main character moving from Arizona to Washington and ended as it should) but the rest was dodgy. Quotes from half way through the book were shoved in towards the start. It seemed to skim all the parts rather than bother going into it all. The bits that were good, were indeed quite good. On the whole, it was a low budget film made by a director I've never heard of - Though I believe she got fired and won't be making the sequel.
If I am honest, I think you would be clueless if you didn't read the book first. If you do read the book first, you will probably be dissapointed. So confused or annoyed, it's up to you.
Not saying it was a disaster, but it could have been so much better. If they stuck to the book for inspiration, it could have possibly been one of the best films of all time (with a bit more funding) because I think they got most of the characters quite well. The main girly could have been a bit less wooden, but most of the others were pretty good. The intro was something a bit different... But then you keep getting scenes where it is obviously fake - For example, jumping long distances through the air or running extremely quickly across the ground where you can pretty much imagine where the strings were attached to the characters.
A thing I came up with to describe it, which I am quite proud of, is: The book was 'Twilight'. The film was 'Twilight: An attempt to rewrite'.
Anyone else been to watch it? Don't let me make you feel as if you shouldn't watch it... But don't expect it to be as good as some of the films that have been released this year.
Your verdict, if you have one?
Cheers
