My Sister-in-law makes her first appearance in Eastenders tonight, playing a character called Marni Merick. Her name's Lisa Ellis (stage name, real name Taylor) and we're all dead chuffed for her, she's worked hard to get this part!

A very proud Rob  :)

Congratulations! I hope this leads to bigger things for her :)
I'm not surprised you're very proud ;)

Congratulations Rob, give it a few years and once she is a household name and has more wonga than she knows what to do with, maybe you can tap her to clear you mortgage for example............That's only if you wife was nice to her as a child of course ;D ;D

In seriousness, one question though, and please don't misunderstand. A stage name of Lisa Ellis and real name Lisa Taylor, Taylor or Ellis, not exactly standing out in the manner of Peaches Geldof or Brooklyn Beckham. What is the reason for the name change for the stage?

Equity membership? There may be another Lisa Taylor already, the same reason that "Little Britain's" David Walliams is not his real name, David Williams. :)

It's equity as Charlie said. Ellis is her mother's maiden name.

She's my Brother-in-law's sister, does that actually make her my sister-in-law?

Technically no. She is your brother-in-law's sister.

I just found out that this also applies to my brother-in-law's wife. She is not technically my sister-in-law.

After a quick Google, and a visit to the Equity website, it explains why actors have to have a unique name.

Harks back to the episode of "The Vicar of Dibley" when they cunningly hired Alice's musical cousin Reg Dwight to open the village fete...

...only to find it wasn't the Reginald Dwight. :)
