Just Wondering if anyone here is a fan of "Dads Army"...

Personally I think its a piece of absolute genius, I mean how did Jimmy Perry and David Croft come up with all those plots and keep it going series after series?

I personally is into loads of 60/70/80 comedy's e.g. Fawlty towers blackadder etc...

I liked Dads Army but prefered Aint't Half Hot Mum

Yep. Every single episode (bar the unfound lost ones from series 2) grace my DVD rack. I find anything by Perry and/or Croft is probably well worth a watch.

Behind the scenes, some of the real life stories of the actors involved are even more interesting...

(Private Godfrey, Arnold Ridley for example was a successful playwright, and play rugby for Bath in the 1920s; Capt Mainwaring. Arthur Lowe, had served as a Sgt Major in WW2, Sgt Wilson, John Le Mesurier had been a Capt; L Cpl Jones, Clive Dunn spent almost the entire war as a PoW of the Germans...)

The final scene of the final episode is one of the most moving sequences seen on TV, following Cpl Jones and Mrs Fox's marriage they are eventually joined on the promenade by all the main platoon members, and end up paying their own tribute, in the form of a toast (with their mugs of tea), almost "out of character" by turning to the camera, to "Britain's Home Guard"...

Like most British comedy I used to watched Dad's Army too. But, like Mark, I enjoyed It Ain't Half Hot Mum more. Only because of the Sgt Major ofcourse. Not because of that bunch of pooftahs........

Indeed. Top man. So sad that so many of them died so very soon after the series finished (mind you, given the average age of the cast that wasn't surprising I suppose). Other than Jimmy Beck its the two youngest platoon members who survive...
