Question...

Does anyone else think that this "emo" culture is just another hype like grunge, punk, flowerpower, etc...

I mean, these kids - people are non conforming, just until another hype comes along or they grow up and start working and living in the real world? And as much non-conforming as they are, they still obey the rules of the hype?

Does anyone else think that's quite ironic?

Genres come and go Omag, real music stays the same....
At least "Emo" music is original and REAL instruments are played, but I'm not a great fan of it.
Give me a bit of Bowie any day.

Now I am feeling old......  ;)

To quote Banksy, (what a guy...) "I want to be a non-conformist, just like everybody else'

& yah, its just a phase. I know we have some 'emos' on here, so i wont say what i really think, but they will grow out of it  :P

Some 'emo' music is ok though, like Fall Out Boy's first album ..., some of it on the other hand...yuck  ;D

as a so called 'emo' (tabbed by my mates for the bands i like and the way i dress) its just the way i am, i never thought to my self today i'm going to be emo for a 8 months, then for 4 months i'l become a grungey. i personaly enjoy the 'emo and screamo' genre of music bands such as funeral for a friend, my chemical romance, enter shikari, saosin and others but i do also listen to other stuff like club mixes and a little bit of RnB....

those people who go around being depressed and pretending not to give a f**k about their life are just pathetic and that attitude was around way before 'emo' culture became a fad. its just adopted another name.

just my 2 cents
john... listening Funeral for a Friend -Roses for the dead

Just to say we're sorry,
For the black eyes and bleeding lips.
And it's hard to forget
How many lies we've told.

Or how old we'd grow,
Before I said goodbye.
So let's scrape our knees on the playground.

It's not your fault,
You feel okay.
It's too late in the day.
It's not your fault,
You feel betrayed.
You can't come out to play.

I never listened to a word you never said.
I never listened to a word you never said.

Wasting the hours now,
We're all suckers for tragedies.
And start this over again,
And you bring us to our knees.

As sunrise comes,
And the story will sell,
A few hundred papers,
So we'll follow you up.

It's not your fault,
You feel okay.
It's too late in the day.
It's not your fault,
You feel betrayed.
You can't come out to play.

I never listened to a word you never said.
I never listened to a word you never said.

So raise your hands up high,
And let this rain pour on.
So raise your hands up high,
And wash us away.

Like innocence and childbirth,
You look just like your mother
And you look just like your father.
Forgive him our father,
Your son is smiling,
So lay roses around you.

Yup

Emo: The Music http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Emo_%28mus ... present.29 Currently in the third wave

Emo: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Emo_%28slang%29

Members of the emo subculture are portrayed by critics as melodramatic, self-pitying teenagers who pour their efforts into writing bad poetry and spending a great amount of time on MySpace

So basically, wearing worn out designer clothes, looking like you have been dragged though a bush backwards while listening to poetic punk. Wonder what the Sex Pistols would have to say about that ;D

I dunno, I enjoy a lot of music. I, like John am into screamo and emo and all that. As a matter of fact, I play drums in a screamo/metal band. However I think I have to most optimistic view on life as possible. I love living my life. I have great friends, a great home life and a great girlfriend. I really couldn't ask for more. I enjoy the instrumentation of that sort of music, i.e. synth, distorted guitars and incredibly fast drums. I like it.

edit- I was just listening to Saosin and now it's B.B. King. ;D

I like the general emo view on things and the emo tunes, but I don't try to look like those fashion victims.

i agree, almost 100% on that everyhting is great in my life atm :) i dnt pity my life or myself i play bass guitar but in no band i just play cos its fun :)  i dress like an emo (apparently) and i enjoy the emo/screamo genre like i said, the so called suicidal melodramatic style has been around for ages. just its taken a new name that name being 'emo' i mean the grunge fashion in the erly 90's is basicly exactly the same....
