European Metalheads!

 I just picked up the latest issue of Terrorizer magazine and was checking out all the ads for the huge Death/Thrash metal festivals that take place all over Europe, does anyone here ever go to these things?
 It's good to see that at least in Europe true metal has enough of a following to have these giant shows, and in places I (being an American) wouldn't expect like The Czech Republic, Bulgaria, and several in England. I've always been aware of the Black/Death metal scene that comes from the Scandinavian area, but is metal really that popular throughout Europe? And what's the security like at these shows?
 Are the crowds at these Thrash metal festivals like the ones here in the states where everyone is just trying to kill each other and someone like me who actually wants to see the musicians perform their art (yes, I consider metal art) has very little chance of enjoying themselves due to being pushed and shoved from one side of the crowd to the other? Not to mention being kicked in the head by crowd surfers. I love Metal, the heavier and darker the better, but I have pretty much sworn off going to the shows because of the reasons I just mentioned, and it's not because I'm old! The only reason I go to concerts is to see musicians play and if I to spend the whole time fighting to stay on my feet then there is no point in going, at least not for me.
 Anyway, I'm just curious about these festivals cuz we really don't have anything of this magnitude in the U.S. oh sure there's Ozfest and a few other tours but nothing like the multi-day festivals I'm seeing in Terrorizer.

I'm not into Death/Thrash metal, however when I read Kerrang each week, theres nearly always a festival of some sort to do with that genre of music. Plus, we have the Download festival at Donnington Park, way better than Ozzfest 8). When you get into mainland Europe, Death metal music especially is very popular, in places like Norway/Sweden etc.

I've always envied Europe for being one of  the few Countries that real metal bands still tour in.

Europe is the cradle of the best Metal bands in the world...Specially in the Nordic countries where the best Black metal bands are located....

Hey Paz...I've bought a guitar and I'm slowly in this scene again....I hope to release independent stuff in few years....give a few moments of your attention to the following bands / albums:

* Satyricon - Nemessis Divina;
* Anathema - Serenades;
* Samael - Ceremony of Opposites;
* Immortal - Sons of the Northen Darkness.

All masterpieces 8)

I have some Satyricon on my iPod, I am fortunate enough to have XM radio in my car and at home and since they brought back the liquid metal station I get to hear all of these bands and many more.

Yep, agreed, not to forget the Samael Passage!

May I add:
Type O Negative - Bloody Kisses
Dimmu Borgir - All Albums
Cradle of Filth - Cruelty and the Beast
Gehenna - Malice
The Sins of thy Beloved - Perpetual Desolation
Theatre Of Tragedy - Velvet Darkness They Fear
Therion - Vovin & Theli,

Last two are a bit more quite, but they're beautiful albums.

Greetings,
Fabian

Type O Negative has been one of my very favorite bands for as long as I can remember, as a matter of fact "Bloody Kisses" was probably about the time I discovered them, I think I saw the video for "Christian Woman" on some metal compilation video I had and I've followed them ever since, "October Rust" is still my favorite CD of all time not only by TON but by pretty much anyone.
I've seen them in concert 3 times, the first time was actually on the "October Rust" tour.
