Just got some very sad news: Syd Barrett, the original singer for Pink Floyd has just passed away at age 60, most likely complications from diabetes.
A very talented guy who had fought his way back from insanity years ago and was living more or less happily in quiet obscurity.

"i've got a mouse and he hasn't got a house I dont know why i call him Gerald, he's getting rather old but he's a good mouse"
Not the best of Pink Floyd, but definately a very talented man, it's such a shame what happened to him in his later life, he will be sadly missed.

Not his deepest lyric, but check this out:
Emily tries but misunderstands
She often inclined to borrow somebody's dreams till tomorrow
There is no other day
Let's try it another way
You'll lose your mind and play
Free games for may
See Emily play
Soon after dark Emily cries
Gazing through trees in sorrow hardly a sound till tomorrow
There is no other day
Let's try it another way
You'll lose your mind and play
Free games for may
See Emily play
Put on a gown that touches the ground
Float on a river forever and ever, Emily, Emily
There is no other day
Let's try it another way
You'll lose your mind and play
Free games for may
See Emily play

"It's awfully considerate of you to think of me here,
And I'm much obliged to you for making it clear,
That I'm not here."
Sad sad news indeed. One of the greatest musical icons of our time and in my opinion more than comparable to Dylan.

He had boundless potential; definitely could have become an "elder statesman " of rock culture like Dylan if he had been able to stay in that world and still keep his lid screwed on properly... but it's better for him that he at least didn't destroy himself during his brief moment in the spotlight, like so many others.

We should be glad he survived so long when so many others such as Morrison and Hendrix were cut down when still so young.

He's in a better place now.......
I love Pink Floyd, the first band that I didn't get tired of listening to its songs over and over......
I'll miss ya Sid.
Cheers,
Doc.
