Classical music i like:
- Bach if it isn't played too often
- Dmitri Shostakovich, especially the big orchestral stuff

Wagner, some Beethoven, Hans Zimmer, Carl Orff, Barber... What more do you need? ;D

Even better if performed by the Russian Red Army Choir! ;D In fact, that's all you really need...

Hooboy... the entire "Planets" suite is amazing, IMHO. Holst is a fave of mine, along with the usual suspects (Bach, Beethoven, Vivaldi). If I had to choose one, I guess it'd be Beethoven, though. Melodic and yet dissonant.

I love classical music, I grew up on Beethoven and Bach and Sergei Prokofiev (love Peter and the Wolf, what a concept!!). But as I grew older I tended to move moe towards Movie scores.
I was influenced so much by these guys that I started composing my own music. ( made another post here in the music forum about that) My favorites from those are in no particular order:
James Horner
John Williams
Alan Sylvestri
Danny Elfman
The late, (and not to sound to cliche`), GREAT) Jerry Goldsmith. :(

JOHN WILLIAMS!!!

Eh... Williams is competent, but listen to the the Planets, and you'll realize he stole it all from Holst.

John Williams also lifts a lot of his effects (and occasionally themes) from Erich Korngold, who wrote for films in the 1930s and 1940s. Listen to the opening titles to 'King's Row' to see where the opening theme for 'Star Wars' came from.

Great composers for me include
Bruckner
Tchaikovsky
Rachmaninov
Mahler
Elgar
Beethoven
Dvorak
Vaughan Williams
Shostakovich
etc
etc

I'd happily add Sir William Walton to that list, as any self-respecting Spitfire lover should... ;) ;D
