I'm not a name-dropper, but this was a very unusual evening for me...
Same friend who dragged me out Monday night had me join him Wednesday with VIP comps to the Joan Jett thing in Central Park... her new bass player is a good friend of his. I'm not a huge fan, but it was a great set- her new stuff is as solid as the old stuff. Talked a bit with said bassist and his wife; they're nice folks, and he did a great job... he used to be a guitar tech on the tour, and one night just before the show her bass player quit (!!), so she asked him if he could play it. Did a good job, so he was hired on the spot to take over on bass. Nice break, huh?
Didn't meet Joan (no backstage privileges), but we were also joined by another good friend of my friend who lives in the neighborhood- Felicia Collins, who plays guitar in the "Late Show" band. She's a fun person to hang out with... the three of us ended up having a few at a little karaoke bar nearby, and she got up to do a couple of numbers. Let's just say she stole the show- Girlfriend can sing as well as she plays! Yours truly did not take a turn- nowhere near drunk enough, as I had to drive home and it was a work night. Maybe next time...think I'll get my Tom Jones on...
;D
