I usually have classical music on at work.  It beats muzak or a soft rock radio station.

Beethoven is nice but I'm more of a baroque guy (Bach, Handel, Vivaldi).

You shouldn't play it in your sleep, you should LISTEN to it! Way better for the stimulation of the mind!

Ehhh my parents kind of like it and I'm stuck playing a LOT of it for piano, but really I don't care for it. It's fun to play certain stuff on the piano, but not to litsen to for fun!

You appreciate it subliminally when you listen in your sleep. Like with my all my cd's. I often listen to them when i'm asleep, and while I know bugger all of the words I can air guitar the next chord almost everytime.

I was lucky enough to play violin semi professionally for several years and stage managed several operas, so I love almost all classical music. There's nothing like sitting in the middle of a full symphony orchestra playing at full blast or at the side of a stage listening to a quality operatic solo.
Personal favourites.
Mozart's.... Entrance of the Queen of the Night from The Magic Flute. A stunning soprano solo and technically amazing too.
Second movement of Beethovens 7th symphony and his 6th.
Sibelius... Symphony No2
Puccini's... La Boheme
Ravel... L'Enfant et les Sortileges


and hundereds more.

Boths good. It's suprising what you learn about the melody and timing of a piece when you're asleep.

Classical music. Yep, it puts me to sleep everytime again. Luckily I also have some good music to keep me awake.  ;D

Classical music is best listened to while driving.  But it can't be a slow piece, it's gotta be something with some balls behind it.

While I can appreciate most classical, I'm always drawn to the...well, the classics.  Ride of the Valkyries, The William Tell Overture and the 1812 Overture all come to mind.

It all depends on the piece.

Rhaphsody in blue-George gershwin
great piece that has jazz themes in it.  it has it all, and it inspires such vivid images in your mind.

When I listen to it, I think of a traveler who wakes up, and goes to the airport where he gets on a plane and travels somewhere.

Albinoni (his Adagio in G minor is superb), Vivaldi, Bach and Wagner are my favourites.

I don't think though the purpose of classical music is to relax. It can give a lot of power. Orff and Wagner can do this easily.
It can also create mental load. Listen to Albinoni's Adagio mentioned above or Mozzart's Lacrimosa and you will understand what I mean.

Finally I want to say that I am mostly into heavy metal but I believe heavy metal and classical are very closely related. No matter how strange it might sound...
