I sit around and get high off these tunes

 "Echoes" was great, so was "Set the controls for the heart of the sun", "Saucerful of secrets", "Careful with that axe Eugene", "Atom, Heart, Mother Suite", and "Dogs". All fairly lengthy tunes.
 Most of my favorite Floyd recordings were the ones that took up a whole album side, or at least half of a side.

 I didn't really like the real early stuff like Arnold Layne and Bike and all that crap, it was when they got real experimental and kind of spooky that I was really into them, then they moved into the phase where they started to get popular on the radio but they were still okay, then when "The Wall" came out, it was like the coolest thing ever, I liked "The Final Cut" too.

 Once Roger left, I didn't really care what they did, Roger Waters was the creative genius of Floyd, although I liked some of Gilmours earlier stuff, without Roger, it became the David Gilmour show and Pink Floyd just became another pop band trying to write a good radio song but it was boring.
The stuff Roger did after he left Floyd was far better than anything Floyd did afterwards, or at least more interesting.

Shine on has always been a favorite of mine.


As for Paz's opinions, I think that the early Pink Floyd was some of the best they did. You have to remember that Barrett was the man who made Pink Floyd famous  and after he was cut from the act Gilmour and Waters had to carry it on by themselves.

An interesting point is that on the Best of Pink Floyd album a fifth of the songs on there were written by Barrett, who was with the band for less than a 30th of their life span.

Only because he went crazy. It was also Syd who inspired a lot of the later stuff too. Shine on you Crazy Diamond for example, and Brain Damage.

Basically, with out Syd Pink Floyd would never have even been created nor would they have been famous.

But what if syd did stay.  Then we wouldn't have the songs that he inspired (if he was there, they wouldn't have been as inspired).For Example-"shine on..." wouldn't have happened.

I really like the stuff after syd.  With syd they were just another acid sniffing psycodelic band from england.

How come no-one has mentioned "Dark Side of The Moon"...?
I still have the original 78, (RPM), vinyl record, with its original cover, (with the prism)... ;)... ;D...!

He sold it, and I lost alot of respect for him.

If you think about it a lot of later Floyd albums are just one song with different parts to them. Dark Side of the Moon is a prime example, you can never tell where one track ends and another begins.
