2nd Chair!!!

Postby Ronnie » Sat Dec 06, 2003 12:07 am

We had all-region band try-outs at school this week and I tried out on snare. Out of about 30 guys, I got 2nd chair! On top of that, I'm second chair in regular band and beat my section leader who said I "sucked". He got second alternate by the way. . .

That's a coincidence! I used to play trumpet and hated it and this year I persuaded my director to move me to drums. . . he was remorseful to do it but he gave in and let me switch, but now I suppose he is glad he let me.

congrats...
i tried out for region jazz band on drum set, 6 drummers were trying out, they all had been playing for more than 5 years. then there was me, playin for just over a year, just learned how to play jazz two weeks before tryouts... I gave them a run for their money but didnt make jazz band, but i did get 4th place outta the 6 and they only took two drummers...

edit: i saw u are from Texas, i was going to go to region band tryouts, but couldnt make it, plus, i only knew half the Maramba music, all the snare, and the first quarter of the timpani  :P

The snare was the hardest for me to learn; even the guy in highschool who was teaching it to me had trouble and he is an all-state snare drummer. The marimba was just plain easy, and I didn't even bother with timpani.
