Best Beatles Song?

Postby Wing Nut » Sun Dec 21, 2003 6:00 pm

What is the best Beatles song for you?  For me it's kind of a toss-up between:

While My Guitar Gently Weeps
Hey Jude
Revolution
A Day in the Life

How about you?

I once considered myself the Beatles #1 fan. Unfortunately this is no longer the case but I still enjoy their music when I hear it on the radio. I haven't listened to one of their albums for a very long time. Nowadays I find that I prefer their older stuff - when they still played live & before things got complicated. Things like "Please Please Me" & "I Wanna Hold Your Hand" seem so innocent now & remind me of the "good ol' days". ;)

My favourite at the time was one of their oldest songs. I Saw Her Standing There.

Well mine have been listed by Pippin, while I like all their songs those four always come to mind.

But probably my all time favorite is:
Everybodys got somethin to hide but me and my monkey!!
The first time i heard that on a cd I was blowen away, so much going on at one time, so many sounds etc. The production of it itself is amazing for that time!!
That is the only song my daughter loved!! A few months old and crying refusing to stop, pop that track on and nothing but smiles!! (on both of our faces!)

 "Paperback writer"
"I want to hold your hand"
 "I feel fine"
 "Eleanor Rigby"
 "Something"
 "Dear Prudence"

There are just too many more to list out.
Still no linked images allowed around here Paz! Naughty...

Like Hagar I prefer their earlier material. For me I think its either "I wanna hold your hand" or "Hard days night".

Hey Jude is fine but the ending is a tad drawn out. I used to hate playing it. ::)

PS. I read some time later that John Lennon had much the same opinion of it - & said so in no uncertain manner. His comments might even have been recorded. ;)

While My Guitar Gently Weeps

Something.

I always liked both but never really considered them Beatles songs. I'm not sure that any Beatles other than George Harrison played on the sessions. :-/
I recently discovered that Eric Clapton played lead guitar including the extended instrumental breaks on "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" which shattered yet another illusion. I don't have too many illusions left. ::)

Maybe that's why they are among my favorites.  I never cared much for the standard 60's sound.

Now I can be disillusioned too.

Sorry to disillusion you guys. The only pleasure it gives me is finding out that I was not the only one to be fooled for all these years. Listening to several programmes on the Beatles by George Martin has shattered my faith in my once all-time favourite group. It's a case of too much information & I would have rather not known. It seems I was wrong about the other Beatles not being on "My Guitar Gently Weeps". This link gives the full details. http://www.thebeatlesongs.com/while_my_guitar_gently_weeps.htm
Another far more detailed report includes this comment.
how they ever kept Eric Clapton's guest appearance on lead guitar any kind of secret is beyond me by the way. Ask yourself when it was you first suspected it, no less had it confirmed.

Maybe I was being naive but I, for one, never suspected it. ::)

I pulled out the cd after reading Hagar's heartbreaking news,
and cued up WMGGW, and I'm sorry it doesn't effect me anymore.
Listening too the song and now knowing Clapton was performing the guitar parts, it almost seems obvious now.
But the illusion that it was George is gone, I'll never hear the song the same way again. :'(
Still a great song, but now forever different to me.
And no Hagar yout not being naive, I don't think anyone sucspected it.
Next we'll find out that they "lip-synced" thier shows, and couldn't play thier instruments, The Monkees come to mind.
I will give them credit for keeping it secret for 35 years, now I 'm going to ask my mom if I'm really her child, I was born in 1968 so maybe illusions were a fad. :)

Hagar, I was looking over that site you listed and did you notice Back in the USSR?
John and George play bass, and Paul plays lead guitar.
Interesting!
I wonder what other on expected surprises await me there?
