I really think it sucks.  The only really good argument for it (which has been posted before. :P) is that it takes money away from the struggling musician.  Which is a good point.  But the only people who seem to care are the "artist" who make more money than any of us will ever see.  They shouldn't care if people download they're songs.  They still get money from concerts and T-shirts, and if the songs are really good then the downloaders will probably buy the album anyways.  Why would they go after there own fans?  That would probably make them lose more money!  And aren't they forgeting whats really important?  The music.  Unless they're all in it for the money. :-/

The main thing taking money away from the stuggeling musican is the RIAA and the recording companys they represent!

There is a wide spread misconception that the RIAA represents the recording artist. They don`t.
The RIAA represents the recording companys only, who are the ones ripping off the artists!

Why was Metalica up in arms over napster?
Simple, they own the the company that markets their recordings.  Matalica has become the slavemaster!

Both he RIAA and the artists have a right to protect their copyrighted material.  People who download music (and yes I have been guilty of it) are stealing from them.  It's that simple.

Does that make stealing right?  I don't have the money for a Ferrari, but I want one.  Should I go steal it?  It's a question of morals.

What you say makes sense, but why should the RIAA spend soo much time taking money away form us with sues and stuff, instaed of going straight to the point, and stoping the P2P sharing programs, like kazaa. We are only part of a chain reaction, that started with kazaa making P2P sharing possible. The RIAA just wants the money from people; they even sued one guy that had not downloaded music! :o
I do not wish to go any futher than this, but i just had to say this.

They did try it.

They shut down napster, which is back now with user gotting to pay <>> anyways, they tried KaZaA i think but they failed cuz some progrs really are legal there, like the golder icons sometimes you see of music allowed to be shared for new artists or games. I saw Roller Coaster Tycoon once. So they hid behind that.
