Clarification, If You Please

In researching architecture, I found a lot of sites on Baroque music.  What is it?  I'm thinking Carmina Burana type stuff, but that's just my uneducated guess.  Also, what that Russian music with a lot of deep chorus in it.  For any Simpsons fans, it was played when Lenin or Stalin popped out of his grave, and in a zombie like walk said, "Must.. crush... capitalism!" ;D

Baroque music goes from the end of the renaissance through the death of Handel.  It's authors include Bach, Handel, Vivaldi and Scarlatti.

It sounds a lot like Baroque architecture looks.  Very ornamented.  The piano had not been invented and most of the composers wrote for private benefactors so the orchestras were small.

The period's greatest contributions were fugues and the development of the concerto.
