Interesting indeed, not sure if they copied intentionally or not, the video show similarities but also differences. I was playing my acoustic a while back and was just experimenting with some chord changes and came upon C, Am, F and G as I was playing the lad walked in and said that sounds familiar. Sure enough a quick check and found that I was playing Stand By Me and that the chord progression is pretty standard stuff. I can't say that the song Stand By Me is a tune that I like very much, but without realizing it I was playing it. I think sometimes it's almost impossible to avoid copying or sounding similar. Have a listen to this video I found, 20 songs using C, Am, F and G some do sound the same.

Zep's Stairway vs the Spirit tune, well, I'm sure Led Zep had nothing better to do in the good ol' daze except to sit around listening to other groups' tunes looking for something to "play"-gerize. We sure clog up our courts, don't we? "So hey, let's sue Zep, they've got bucks comin' out their ears, they can spare a few."

Not guilty, your Honor.

Some other incidents:

The Doors 'Hello I Love You' from their Waiting For the Sun album had been tagged by I-dunno-who as a copy of the Kinks 'All Day and All of the Night'.

Wikipedia:
In the liner notes to the Doors Box set, Robby Krieger has denied the allegations that the song's musical structure was stolen from Ray Davies, where a riff similar to it is featured in The Kinks' 'All Day and All of the Night'. Instead, he said the song's vibe was taken from Cream's song "Sunshine of Your Love". According to the Doors biography No One Here Gets Out Alive, courts in the UK determined in favor of Davies and any royalties for the song are paid to him.

and also:
In an interview with Mojo magazine in 2012, Ray Davies said, "The funniest thing was when my publisher came to me on tour and said The Doors had used the riff for 'All Day And All Of The Night' for 'Hello, I Love You.' I said rather than sue them, can't we just get them to own up? My publisher said, 'They have, that's why we should sue them!'"

The Beach Boys tune 'Surfin' USA' was a copy of a Chuck Berry tune.

Wikipedia:
Surfin' U.S.A." is a song with lyrics by Brian Wilson set to the music of "Sweet Little Sixteen," written by Chuck Berry." and "Despite tensions with Berry over the controversy at the time, Carl Wilson said the Beach Boys "ran into Chuck Berry in Copenhagen and he told us he loves 'Surfin' U.S.A.'.

So I'm waiting for someone to sue me because my house has bedrooms and a bath, must be a copy of someone else's house, right?

Now if I may be excused, I'm gonna listen to some Black Sabbath and see if I can pick out which tunes they plagiarized. Better beer up for this one, it's gonna be a tough one.

There must be literally hundreds of songs based on that chord sequence. It amazes me that it's possible to get so many different melodies from just 4 chords.

Those sound like Bach but I can't pin them to any particular composition.

These guys didn't even bother to change the name (BWV 147), there being no copyright to infringe.

Pachelbel's Canon in D

& just two of the many hit records based on it.

Of course there is no copyright issue with the old classics.

Whiter Shade of Pale is one of the all time greats, my late 60's group played it at many gigs back then.

Wikipedia says:
"The song is often regarded as being derived from Johann Sebastian Bach's well-known "Air on the G String"." and "However, the song has been linked to other works by Bach."

I suppose there's a Bach-ish influence in there, but I don't think it was lifted wholesale from any Bach piece.

Wonderful piece of work by Matthew Fisher, with the organ style based on the Baroque period; 1600-1750.
Contrapuntal motion, played in overlapping layers. JS Bach was a master at that!
