Moody and a Bit Blue

I still have my old Akai quad reel-to-reel -- but, alas, have lost all of the tapes (most in 2-channel stereo). Amongst the many was one with the Moody Blues.

Anywho, I just saw that the Moody Blues will be near us at the Meadowbrook pavilion next week (14th).

I rather liked their style of music, although I've met one or two who didn't; if you're one who doesn't, perhaps your ears prefer the sounds of the Goo Goo Dolls who are scheduled for the 21st...

I still have my old Akai 4000D tape deck & all the tapes. It works perfectly & most of the tapes are playable.

As for the Moody Blues, their albums are available on CD & you can find most of their hits on YouTube.

I quite like a bit of Moody Blues, I have some in my music collection. Used to listen to vinyl, now all my music is on a PC hard drive.......Never had a reel to reel.

The Moody Blues were always quality. I've only got 'Threshold of a Dream' tho, great tunes on it, each with their own flavor and identity. Long ago a roommate had all their earlier albums, so I would give them a whirl every now and then. 'Day of Future Past' was released in Nov 1967, so they do go way back. They certainly are up their with the greatest. Somewhere in the early '70's they gave a concert here in Miami, but I missed it, not sure why.

As usual Wikipedia gives some details about them that most of us don't know, seems every group has a hidden story somewhere. We just listen and enjoy and sort of take it all for granted, but the effort it takes for any given group to make it and produce is sometimes huge.

Ahhh Moody Blues...I consider Justin Hayward as one of the best male voices ever. Especially love the song "Forever Autumn" from that masterpiece, War of the Worlds---

Nights in White Satin

...was their most famous and was reported to be the first major co-work of a rock (blues) group with a major orchestra; this was for the Days of Future Past album but the orchestra was actually employed by Decca Records, the work done separately and edited into the finished presentation.

Also, a bit of advice for anyone wanting to attend the show next week. With Bob Marley at Meadowbrook and a Soulfest at Gunstock, we were sold out for today (yesterday, the 9th) before I left the jobsite; people were calling to find a place to stay the night so I called around but found all motels in the area booked to capacity. People, don't be left out in the dark -- book a room before you go there!
