LinkThank you BBC!
Scotland Yard DI Richard Poole is sent to the Caribbean island of Sainte Marie to solve a fellow policeman's murder. Having done so, he finds himself seconded to the local police force as the dead man's replacement. Poole proves to be a brilliant detective, solving several complex murders. He's not quite suited to either the pace of life on the island or the heat and sand, neither of which he likes very much. He also doesn't like seafood. That aside, the place is just great.

In addition to that, there's also been a rash of detective stuff on local PBS 17.2, Italian, French, German, Scandiv, English. I've been watching mostly the Italian stuff, it's all just great, Don Matteo, Fog & Crimes, Montalbano, De Luca, Nardone, Brunetti, and a few others, all with incredible writing and acting, they put you right there in the setting, you are part of what's going on. Not much violence either, and usually minimal gunfire if any.
Don Matteo is my fav, they've been running that twice a week, it's also extremely funny at times too. Brunetti is actually a German production set in Venice with German actors portraying Italians. Brunetti has great shots of Venice, and with the others, parts of Italy and Sicily that you might not ordinarily see even in travel shows.
The only Hollywood detective show I can do is Columbo, they're re-running those also. The others I never have watched and don't think I could.

For American detectives,
Monk is my current favorite. It ended production 3 years ago but is very active in reruns.
(Stottlemeyer was Buffalo Bill.)
