Boy Bands? What your take on them?

like all forms of music. There is a place for it. I know i wont be buying any of it, but its still gotta be bought by someone, or it wouldnt be around. Respect others likes and dislikes in music, as you would expect other people to respect your likes and dislikes.

Wasnt aiming to insult spitty, just a general comment aimed at no-one. There are people on the planet who insult others because they dont share the same music tastes. I think its sad that in such a diverse entertainment field that you get people like that.

I couldn't agree more Craig. There's a very wide range of music to choose from. Just because you happen to like one form doesn't make it any better or worse than another. Nor does it make you any better than the people who like the music you hate. Why do people insist on categorising these things? It's all music.

While on the subject of categories a thought just occurred to me. Back in the 60s there were two basic categories of what I'll call 'rock' music. These appealed to two types of people & a whole culture grew out of it. The two groups detested each other & their choice of music, the way they dressed, form of transport & everything else about them. There were battles between them whenever they met up, usually on a Saturday night in any town. The main "events" were the regular Bank Holiday outings in places like Clacton & Brighton & anyone caught up in it was likely to get hurt. I think this was a British phenomenon but was wondering which group you chaps would put yourselves in. Mods or Rockers. I suspect Mods myself. I'm sure most people have seen the film Quadrophenia & if not why not?

I would get killed by any of those artists if I told them they were 'Boy Bands', but at the end of the day, they are.
Guys, instruments, music and money, make all of these 'Boy Bands' no?

But I still stand by the idea that people and bands have to write their own music before I can respect it.

Sorry but I can't agree with this. Many of the most brilliant musicians in the world never wrote a single note of their own material. Composing & performing were separate skills until fairly recently & some of the best music ever written was by composers who couldn't play an instrument at all well & never set foot on a stage. The lyrics were very often written by someone else. In the case of popular music it was rare for musicians to write their own songs until the Beatles showed the way. After hearing some of the rubbish these groups come up with I'm not convinced that writing their own stuff is always such a good idea.

Not seen either of these young ladies of which your speak but it's quite likely they wouldn't fancy you either. I have no illusions & I'm quite certain I have no chance whatever they look like. When you get to my age beggars can't be choosers.

.....The Mods & Rockers are still around but they seem a tad more tolerant of each other these days. They're a lot older & a little more sensible now. I wouldn't go so far as to say they ever became friends. ....
