There must be some benefit or they wouldn't all be so keen on getting one of these "honours. Don't ask me what that might be though. My old chief engineer was once made a Freeman of the Ciy of London & was presented with token keys to the city. He wouldn't tell me what this honour was for but apparently one of the benefits is that he is now entitled to herd his sheep across some bridge or other in London whenever he wishes. Not that he ever kept a sheep for whatever purpose - or ever visits London. LOL
