Dire Straights..

Money For Nothing, is being banned for radio in Canada. Read the comments after the article, but please, if you have a reply, no political comments or biggotry.

Just more governmental idiocy. I bet Mark Knopfler is p***ed. They should read the article Wikipedia has on the song, which includes an interview with Mark, which, as I understand it, confirms what you have posted.

I have been a Mark Knopfler fan for a long time. He's one of the good guys. He has to be for Chet Atkins to take to him like he did. Besides, what about all the 'langauge' used in rap and hip hop? I don't know if you even

have those in Canada, but if you do and they allow them, then they should allow this.

Yes Rap, HipHop and other genre far worse than this song exsist here. I have all of Dire Straights music and love it. I am as stunned as the author of the comment I posted. Now, I'm sliding my headphones on and going to listen to some Dire Straights.

;D ;D Well said! If Bob and Doug were in charge we'd get a free beer every time we play the song, ehh.

Even Mark Twains classic, Huckleberry Finn, is getting spit polished for todays world..
Quote..
"The panel reportedly noted that Money for Nothing would be acceptable for broadcast if suitably edited (bleeped).

This is the second big news story about the sanitizing/censorship of culture this month. A much larger item pertained to the Mark Twain classic Huckleberry Finn."

Censorship of airplay is one thing. Next, they will be taking CDs and movies off the shelves, and shutting down web sites. Cover your eyes and ears George Orwell.

There is already an edited version of Money for Nothing, I have the CD, they take out the entire verse in question, matter of fact I didn't even know that verse was in the song until several years later when I heard it on XM...

I just became aware, this morning, that this has been censored in the USA for some time already. It still shocks me that some of this Gangsta rap remains untouched. The opinion on this side of the border is that this will set a bad precident. Being that one person in 35 million complained after 25 years.  :P Some of William Shakespeares work is also banned from schools.
On the bright side, this publicity is something Dire Straights couldn't have payed for.

That about sums it up. We are in severe danger of being ruled by minorities. ::)
