What you Play Vs What you Listen to

Postby NDSP » Sat Oct 20, 2007 9:32 am

I was wondering for those of you who play an instrument what type of music do you play, and what type of music do you listen too. I'm very weird... I listen to this yet I play this   I also play a lot of rock for fun, but thats not what I'm currently trying to perfect.

A lot of people I know listen to very different things from what they play or sing, so I was wondering if all people are that way, or just some :D

Now there's something I'm very bad at. I really haven't yet learned how to properly play both the base of a song and the melody together like that ;D

I can bury myself for hours on U-Tube, listening to all the talented Folks playing their musical instruments...

...especially the Classical ones...

Fascinating... :)...!

I pick out my favourite ones and store them in my "Favourites" to play whenever I feel like it...
...(most of the time!)... ;)...!

Unfortunatly I've never learned to play any instruments. I'd love to learn to play the guitar or drums. Maybe one day I will take up some lessons. Now I don't care for acoustic guitars that much, there has to be a certain noise level in it so to speak. If I may: Example. To be on a stage in front of thousands and play. It must be a rush. I might be a little too old to start now. Oh wel......

I consider myself to be very lucky...

My dear old Mum used to play her piano, and my dear old Dad used to accompany her on his Mandolin.
When I was very small (2 years old) I took a great interest in this and constantly tinkled the keys on the piano. Mum and Dad noticed my interest, so while I was still at Junior School that paid for Piano lessons for me.
I quickly picked up the gift of making music, and now regularly play it on my house full of assorted musical instruments!!

Making music is a fantastic gift, which always came naturally to me... :)...!

A wise musician once said to me, "Listen to everything you like, and play everything you can."

You may not be able to, or have the time, to play everything you like, but listening to a lot of music - different kinds and different things within the same kind - will help you play what you can.

Fretless!, John!...... :o... :o... :o...!

Have you ever practiced playing a "Fretless" Violin, or Cello?....:o...!

I did.....once.... :-[...!

I would go for a Fender (or Squire) Jazz Bass Guitar.....with frets!!... :)...!

Don't forget you also need someone else to play the Lead and Melody parts!

(Drummers can be lonely folks as well)...;)...!

F.... 8-)...!

I had a couple of friends who were Drummers and Bass Players, and they were always desperate for me to go and accompany them in their homes, because without me playing the lead and melody part on keyboards or 6 string Guitar, etc...they were lost!

Percussionist; guilty as charged...

What do you call someone who hangs around with musicians? A percussionist!

As a diversion from all those viola-player jokes.

LOL.... ;D...!

It really was a buggar...

The poor old Drummer and Bass player could do very little on their own, except accompany a music record or CD.....it always needed me to turn up to provide the Melody and Lead, for us to play "Live" music.
I felt so sorry for them...

...NAH!.. ;).... ;D...!

LOL...!

F....now for a spot of Status Quo...altogether...!!

fozz, ive been playing my bass since i was 14, im now 19, 5 years of eperience. and yes i regurlarly play on my mates fretless bass, and a fretless bass in music 47 in worcester, i love them, lovely sound and so smooth to play :) just the slides and 'hammer on' are so less matalic and in general give a nicer noise. cant wait to get it :) i will be happy. im also looking at getting a 5 string bass. that b string is very useful :)

Lol I've been playing guitar for 5 years, but I don't think I could ever switch to fretless. Its funny I've always said that I've been playing for three years, until a while ago when I noticed that I started the october I was in 2nd grade, and now its october and I'm in  7th grade ;D It's cool to be playing classical pieces though when my friends are still learning hot cross buns. ;D
