New Ice Pilots..Buffalo Air

Postby Sprocket » Thu Jun 12, 2014 5:38 am

Been looking forward to the start of the new series of Ice Pilots, and we had the first episode showing here last Sunday night. (UK)

I was left a little disappointed though...looks like not much has changed over there.
Aircraft solidly iced over, mechanical failures, loading, unloading and loading the same aircraft repeatedly, in the hope that it will fly this time..

Then a mechanic leaves a hammer somewhere in the engine, which makes its way down to the wheel well, jamming the wheel lock mechanism. Upon landing the wheel collapses, causing $100,000.00 damage to wing and engine. (C46).

What with de-icing airplanes using mop and bucket, uncontrolled tool checks etc, the whole Buffalo Airways looks rather unprofessional and haphazard.
I can't help but wonder how long till there is a fatality, and how long till Buffalo follows in the footprints of Chalk's Ocean Airways?

It is an old-school flight operation using old iron. The show dramatizes things for ratings...do the same with British Airways or American Airlines and it will feature mechanical drama and also feature an extra hour each episode of paperwork and bureaucratic non-sense! :D

Hi Jan... <<u

Do not believe everything you see on the television...

Buffalo Airways operates under the governing rules of Transport Canada just like all other airlines in this country.

Entertainment is the factor which governs all the television episodes and by the way we are still waiting to see new episodes here.

I love watching cowboy pictures as Hollywood gives all the cowboys rifles and pistols which never have to be reloaded... :o

Oh, I am still waiting to see if those Star Trek type movies ever build a star ship with a washroom... :o ...have yet to see a bathroom on one of those shows on a star ship.
Perhaps one does not need to use a bathroom when flying in space  :?

Glad you enjoy one of the Old Girl and my favourite shows, television watchers we are not but that show we like... ;)
Cheers...Happy Landings...Doug

Their tool control programs are probably no better than any other civilian op. And as to actually doing the work...welll...can it wait till the next 100 hour? We have schedules to keep! Hurry up! Change that, inspect the other thing, now...get it out the the hangar asap! QAInspection? I'll sign it...no need to actually go LOOK at it, takes too long...did you actually...wait a sec, phone call...
And we wonder why the tops come open in flight (Aloha Air), or there is tape left over a pitot static port or...the list goes on and on...So many crashes tracable directly to half-fast (not slow, not fast, half-fast :) ) maintennance and lack of QA...Like the hammer in the wheel well, for example...

Maybe I got a little bit...spoiled not the the right word, but the Military TCP is tight, as are their QAR tests, you name it. They never will eliminate all human error, but they try to minimize it. The airlines try to maximize aircraft utilization and time aloft vs hangar time, be damned to safety and requirements...then try to hide the results behind non-disclosure agreements in their settlements. Better to pay a few families off than actually DO what their supposed to be doing. Costs too much, doncha know...

Anyway, /endrant
Sorry all
Pat
Have fun, fly high, far, and free!

Actually I enjoy that show. In the last few seasons the owner (Joe) hasn't been acting such a prick as he was in the first few. I watch the shows online so I get them a few weeks after they are aired. There isn't another television series quite like it in my opinion. ^-^
