Over here (USA) I believe in some instances people are payed not to plant crops in the interest of restoring natural grassland. I'm not 100% certain because I don't own any land, which by the logic I see here should mean I will be seeing a check in the mail any day now. ;)

In the US, we pay farmers not to grow stuff so as to keep the prices from falling.
