Technically, all states were annexed...
The method varied.

The 13 original were colonies that, for the most part, were already claimed by the British prior to Queen Anne but revolting some decades after her rule. They weren't annexed states since the governmental process wasn't in place. Proclaiming themselves seperate states, they became ex colonies, in which, therefore, they exceeded.

As to Texas, what remains prominent in my mind is the explanation to why "in my neck of the woods" isn't common in Texas. It was pointed out to us on a world map that the continental U.S. is shaped like a big chicken. "New England forms the neck and head area..." then pointing to the lower left of the U.S. map, "now you know why this is called Tex' as."

Okay except for the first 13. I will concede my error there.

not to get too political... but I hold that any state can remove itself from the nation whenever it wants.

The Constitution says in black and white

"whenever any form of government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the right of the people to alter or to abolish it, and institute new government."

It is also my firm opinion that we have reached - or even passed this point in our history as a nation - our present government is self destructive and therefore it is not only our right but our responsibility to remove the present government.

threat of secession is one of the states rights IMHO... and it is a fundamental part of the checks and balances system on which our government was based.

the right of states to secede was abolished at the conclusion of the civil war... yes... even for Texas.

take this right away from the states... and government grows beyond control.

and boy has it ever grown
