Culture...Edmonton style.

OK; as most of you may know; I'm a web printer in one of the biggest plants in Canada.
Now - there are a lot of folks out there that think people in factories are dumb. This is not so - a lot of people in the trades are in fact extremely smart - which is why we excel in those trades.

But smarts and culture are two very different things. And while I'll be the first to say culture is where you find it, Edmonton's approach to culture approximates that of the average petrie dish. ;D

So when you get Edmonton factory workers discussing culture, well...

OK, so I've had a hard day - all I want to do is lie down, listen to a little Chopin, and go to bed. Which brings me to my first point:

-It's pronounced Sho-Pan. It is not pronounced "Choppin'".

-Those egg things in pastry are Quiche. They are not 'Quickies'.

-While they do provide a rather nice prime rib, the Sawmill Steakhouse is not a five-star restaurant. (It's a solid 3.)

-When at a five-star restaurant, ordering a rare steak by saying "Knock the horns off the son-of-a-b***, wipe its a** and send it to the table" is not appropriate. Funny as hell, but not appropriate.

-Stompin' Tom Connors is not classical music.

-'Sushi' is not the Japanese word for 'Bait'.

-The Edmonton Oilers are not 'World Ambassadors of Peace'. Neither are the Edmonton Eskimos. Although I could possibly be persuaded in the case of the Edmonton Eskimos cheerleaders...

-Losing the hockey game between Edmonton and the Ottawa Senators is not sufficient reason to secede from Canada.

-'Ballet' is not pronounced the same way it is spelled.

And lastly, for now, a cowboy hat is not a good tuxedo accessory. Ever.

;D

One of the biggest plants in Canada is a fir tree, Faun Staiduk; we say it's for 'choppin'.

You're a very slow eater for someone in the woods.

I remember that one on the radio.

2 gents in a restaurant, 1 female waitress:

Waitress:"What can I get you, sir?"
Guy 1:"I'll have the sausage and mash please"
Waitress:"And for you?"
Guy 2:"I'll have a quickie please"
*slap*
Guy 1:"It's pronounced... 'Keesh'"

Or something like that  ;D  It was a few years ago.
