Brave photographer!! I don't mind skunks as long as I am in charge of the situation, but bring a dog in the picture? You lose all control of the situation!! all that dog has to do is give in to his instinct and you got yoursef a stinky dog and an angry skunk LOL. Photographer earned his Man card when he took that pic.

More like letting the skunk know that he doesn't have to try to take control of the situation. I had a skunk come right up to the glass door of our motel office one night, his nose against the glass. I slowly walking over to the door and, as we looked at each other from opposite sides I politely said, "I'm sorry, but I don't think we have a room you can afford."
He* still looked up at me for a second, then turned and walked back into the night.

*...may have been "she' -- I had no intention of getting a close view of the pertinent area.

I suspect this is probably a pet skunk. I've been told that they supposedly make good pets if you have them descented. I personally have never had the desire to test the theory.

That and I don't think I'd want old Pepe Le Pew hanging around my house trying to woo my cat and I end up giving him room and board for his efforts.....

Don't expect it to be unscented nor a 'domesticated' pet. Since these little weasles know they are rarely without a defensive scent, they aren't fearful of much of anything. They are quite apt to start a family den under your porch.

When I typed 'domesticated' I meant as one intentionally adopted as a pet. If you put out enough food/garbage and don't threaten them, they will adopt you; racoons are much the same.

We have skunks and I don't see what the big deal is about them. We leave them alone and let them do their thing, which is mostly de-grubbing the yard. They don't stink and one is almost all white.

I did once kill a skunk while mowing a hay field. Poor thing, I didn't see it and only knew I hit it when I heard the 'thump'. I wasn't about to pick it up so it became part a of hay bale. It did stink and I almost felt sorry for the kids hired to put up the hay.

I have two friends back home that have descented skunks for pets, they said it's just like owning a cat, they kind of do their own thing.
