We had our old 3-wire cables underground, sometimes detoured around huge boulders, but the power company required the new 4-wire cables be strung through the tree limbs rather than tree roots, except for the short distance from the meter to the home (the part they're not responsible for); they wanted easier access in an emergency -- falling tree, drunk pole rammer, earthquake, etc. -- so that they could just trample the charred ashes of hitherto obstacles.Most of that sort of "Wirery" seems to be buried underground, and out of sight, in Britain...
