Mobile, Ala., April 26, 2007 -- Eric Burns Overstreet was jailed in September, 2006, for spilling fountain soft drink in the Mystik Stop & Shop. Overstreet fetched a mop, set out a "Wet Floor" warning sign, and began cleaning up the initial spill -- along with two more he consequently spilled. He then went out the door with a fourth drink that he didn't pay for and was chased down by the store clerk.
Overstreet was held in jail until his hearing, whereupon he pleaded guilty to a reduced charge of third-degree theft. He was ordered to stay out of the Mystik Stop & Shop and received a one-year suspended sentence.
When Judge Rick Stout told Overstreet that he hoped the soda was good, Overstreet replied, "I should've had a V-8."
