I was thinking the same thing...

also what if they need a pit stop? going on the run, geez...

This is no hoax! I once saw a documentary on this, it's somewhere in South-America. People actuall tranpsort goods this way, but the structures are totally reliable ( especially the brakes) and several people die in accidents every year...
