USS Lincoln

Postby -sam- » Wed Jul 06, 2005 9:10 am

Just found this on the net !!

""
USS Lincoln

This is the transcript of the actual radio conversation of a U.S. Naval ship
with Canadian authorities off the coast of Newfoundland.

Canadian: Please divert your course 15 degrees to the south to avoid a
collision.

Americans: Recommend you divert your course 15 degrees to the north to
avoid a collision.

Canadians: Negative. You will have to divert your course 15 degrees to
the south to avoid a collision.

Americans: This is the captain of a U.S. Navy ship. I say again, divert your
course.

Canadians: No. I say again, you divert your course.

Americans: This is the aircraft carrier USS Lincoln, the second largest ship
in the United States Atlantic fleet. We are accompanied by three destroyers,
three cruisers and numerous support vessels. I demand that you change your
course 15 degrees north, I say again, that's one five degrees north, or
counter-measures will be undertaken to ensure the safety of this ship.

Canadians: This is a lighthouse. Your call.

I find that sterotype to be very distasteful.

In addition, this NEVER HAPPENED. It was made up by people who probably believed in that sterotype.

I've seen a variation of it with a British aircraft carrier and a French lighthouse, etc....

Would never happen anyway. We don't need carriers anywhere near Canada, and we could take over Canada with a Nerf gun and a couple water balloons.

It wouldn't happen purely because Lighthouses appear on charts and do everything they can to make themselves seen.

However I still like to think it's true. ;D

You're going to have to find it first.
