talk about airfoil....someone once flew here a flying saucer craft, about 2 feet in diameter and 2 inches thick flat all around the perimeter, a couple of fins and a motor. if flew great. absolutely no airfoil. i wonder how??

Without seeing it, I would say it flew because of lift generated by angle-of-attack. This is how most acrobatic planes fly, and how your hand 'flies' up when you hold it out the window or a car.
